Expertise:

Our work focuses on understanding antimicrobial resistance particularly in Gram negative bacteria including Enterobacteriaceae and Acinetobacter baumanii in clinical infections and colonized carriers. We investigate the antibacterial and antibiobilm activity of natural products such essential oils (Cinnameldehyde) against MDR strains of Acinetobacter using microbiological and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) approaches. Our studies into synergistic effects of new antibiotics such as (Doripenem) with older ones, (Colistin) are aimed at rescuing the use of older antimicrobials and providing additional therapeutic options to patients. In association with collaborators from Cairo University Medical School and Univ of Cologne we have analysed by WGS possible mechanism of colistin resistance in A. baumanii clinical isolates.
