efflux pumps, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, biofilms/intracellular infection
Role of efflux in antibiotic intrinsic or acquired resistance; testing inhibitors of efflux including in biofilms/intracellular infections. Using collections of clinical isolates, we study the relationship between antibiotic resistance and expression of efflux pumps as well as the impact of natural mutations in genes encoding efflux pumps for recognition of antibiotics or for bacterial physiopathology. We also evaluate the interest of combining inhibitors of efflux with antibiotics, in particular in models of persistent infections like biofilms or intracellular survival.
Elucidation of how active efflux contributes to modulate antibiotic pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics and define molecular determinants for antibiotic recognition by these transporters.
